Dignity of Work and Rights of Workers
Each person – through his or her work – participates with God in his ongoing creation and care for the world. The Church teaches that each worker has a variety of rights to which he or she is entitled and that the exploitation of workers violates the justice God demands.
Life and Dignity
Each person – bearing in the image and likeness of God – has a worth and dignity to be upheld and protected. The Church teaches that each person is sacred from the moment of his or her conception to the moment of his or her natural death.
Solidarity
Each person – part of the same human family – has been united to one another through the movement of God. The Church teaches that the Kingdom of God can be known to be present when persons stand with those who suffer and seek justice for all.
Rights and Responsibilities
Each person – on account of his or her dignity as a child of God – has rights and responsibilities. The Church teaches that each person has the right to the necessities of life as well as the responsibility to contribute toward the common good.
Option for the Poor and Vulnerable
Each person – reflecting the preferential love God – possesses a unique relationship with those most vulnerable whose needs are meant to be prioritized. The Church teaches that structures within society are meant to promote the dignity of all persons.
Call to Family, Community & Participation
Each person – created for relationship – contributes through family and communal life. The Church teaches that the well-being of persons and society depends on the strength of families and inclusion of all persons in shaping the institutions impacting their lives.
Care for Creation
Each person – entrusted with the gift of Creation – bears responsibility to protect and preserve the natural world. The Church teaches that care for the Earth is a moral responsibility and essential to the respect for persons and promotion of the common good.
